Take a look at my top Jewish dishes. Most, with the exception of one, are traditional Ashkenazi recipes. To be honest, I've never ranked my Jewish recipes but this year I was curious what recipes are the most popular.
Of course these Jewish dishes have been here at TIHIC the longest, which does mean they've had a chance to grow their numbers.
In case you are wondering I have roughly 150 traditional Jewish recipes and all aren't Ashkenazic.
I was not raised kosher and put my own twist on Jewish recipes, though I do try to observe dietary laws if adding to my Jewish recipe category.
Take a look and see if you agree that these are my best. And if not I'd love to know your favorites.
If you are looking for something specific, I'd be happy to help you find it. I have a library of over 600 cookbooks and it's still growing!
Rules For Cooking Jewish Recipes
Jewish food comes from communities around the world. Recipes are adapted to meet Jewish dietary laws which means keeping them kosher.
The Bible puts forth the meaning of kosher. Only certain animals are permitted to be eaten. They must be slaughtered in a specific manner. And no dairy products are permitted to be eaten with meat products.

My mother used to make this matzo meal cake that is laden with apples. Topped with streusel and caramel sauce it is warm and decadent. However, the caramel sauce is made with butter!

Everyone needs challah in their lives. One of my favorite recipes, this challah makes everything special.

Not that my mom wasn't a good cook, but brisket was something she never perfected. Perhaps it was that it was never sliced right! Good news though-this Ruth Reichel recipe turns out great every time!

I am not a fan of mac and cheese and never have been. But mac and cheese is popular and even though this version is made with matzo, apparently it still hits the spot!

Unstuffed Sweet and Sour Cabbage with Meatballs
When my kids were little I discovered this not uncommon recipe. It's the meatballs they loved and I must say they really hit the mark on this!

Made with Golden blintzes, this super easy casserole is one I make every Yom Kippur. So good, so easy, so satisfying.

I prefer bialys over bagels. Since they are not easy to find, I make my own. Manservant loves them and since the recipe makes about 18, they hold us over for awhile.

I must admit my father had a thing for cold borscht which was never very appealing to me. However once I discovered this hearty warm soup, I was sold. Borscht is the perfect cold weather food.

One Pot Chicken with Dates and Lemon
I just made this easy chicken recipe last week. Perfect for Shabbat, I love how the sweetness of the dates and the tart lemons make this really special.

My most popular Jewish recipe is kugel! Go figure. Kugel seems to be so polarizing but this winning recipe will win you over! Just don't over bake it!
I'd love to hear if you make this recipe!
