Being a lover of chocolate milk, I knew I would love this homemade chocolate cake made with Hershey's syrup.
This simple recipe produces a moist fudge-like one layer cake that can be enjoyed chilled or at room temperature.
This is not your traditional classic chocolate cake stacked in three layers with a butter cream frosting.
However this is still a moist chocolate cake recipe that makes one delicious dessert!
Why I Love This Decadent Chocolate Cake
Anytime I buy Hershey's chocoate syrup I am reminded of when I was a little girl.
Though I have always loved NesQuik in my milk, I believe my mother used to buy Bosco's chocolate syrup to drench our ice cream with.
I'm not sure if they still make that stuff, but in Colorado I resort to Hershey's when I feel the need for a milk shake or dousing my ice cream.
Having an almost full container of syrup in the fridge was the only inspiration I needed to try this rich chocolate cake recipe.
That, and the fact that company was coming...which in my case is always a good reason for dessert.
In fact-don't tell anyone: I may even invite friends over just so I can have dessert!

What This Hershey's Homemade Chocolate Cake Isn't
This chocolate cake is so simple it doesn't even require cocoa powder.
It also is not a bundt cake so no worries if it sticks to the pan.
If a hand mixer is all you have that's OK!
It is not a dessert that is affected by high altitude.
It most definitely is not a cake that takes a long time to make.
And it may not be my favorite chocolate cake recipe but whenever I need a quick fudgy mousse-like one bowl chocolate cake recipe this is my go-to chocolate cake!

How To Make this Homemade Chocolate Cake
Pre-heat oven to 325.
Butter an 8" x 2" round cake pan, line with parchment, then butter and flour or cocoa the pan, tapping out excess.
In a large bowl cream the butter and sugar with an electric mixer, until light and fluffy.
With the mixer on low speed, add the eggs one at a time, then mix in the chocolate syrup and vanilla.
This is it for the wet ingredients.
Dry ingredients include flour and that's it! Add a dash of salt if it will make you feel better.
Add the flour and mix until just combined.
Scrape batter in the prepared pan and bake for 40-50 minutes or until center of cake is just set.
The low temperature allows the cake to bake slow which is one reason it has such a fudgy texture.
Allow cake to cool on wire rack for several hours. Remove cake from pan and place on serving plate right side up.
To Make Ganache:
While cake is cooling heat heavy cream until barely simmering. Pour over chocolate chips and coffee granules.
Let sit several minutes and then using a small whisk, whisk until the chip mixture is smooth and shiny.
Pour melted chocolate over cake and using a spatula, spread over the homemade chocolate cake layer.
Sprinkle with rose petals or garnish as desired.
Yes, those are dried rose petals I sprinkled on top, but I'd sure love some of these. Aren't they pretty?

Let this one-pan cake cool completely.
Serve at room temperature or chill if desired.
If cake is not completely cooled it may develop beads of condensation if chilled.
Hershey's syrup chocolate cake can also be left on the counter lightly covered with plastic wrap for several days.
However if you set this homemade chocolate cake there it may mysteriously disappear one forkful at a time, which is what happened in our home.
I'm not naming names but I'd guess his first initial begins with the letter "M".
No, it wasn't me!
With Valentine's Day not so far away, I am always on the look out for the best chocolate cake recipe and this easy cake is perfect to surprise your favorite Valentine with.
I promise they won't be disappointed.
This favorite chocolate recipe is so rich I don't believe you need a scoop of ice cream on the side, but I'm not stopping you if that's your hearts desire.
Whipped cream would also suffice, as would a giant glass of cold milk.
One rich layer is all this homemade chocolate cake recipe makes, but it is one rich layer.
A small slice of this chocolate cake is all that's needed to appease the cake-aholics. Or choc-aholics.
Chocolate cravings will easily be banished!
I've made a lot of chocolate cakes and I love every one. Each is different in its own way.
From flourless to traditional, or one layer to three, each chocolate cake is special to me.

Hi there
Love to make this but not sure of your ingredients. What is 1 t please ? And the chocolate syrup measure? Do you mean 1 and 1/3 cups? Sorry but to this aussie, the measurements are a bit obscure. Thanks much!
