Original Mrs. Fields Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

Want the original Mrs. Fields chocolate chip cookie recipe? This is from her book and titled Blue Ribbon chocolate chip cookies. And yes, they are a winner!

After the Tollhouse chocolate chip cookie recipe came the original Mrs Fields chocolate chip cookie recipe.

At least that’s how the timeline was in my life.

It began with Tollhouse, which was my Mom’s fave.

Mom never bought Chips Ahoy. She did buy Oreos and with luck, she sometimes bought Pepperidge Farm cookies.

When I was old enough to drive up I57 to Lincoln Mall, (our local mall, 30 minutes from Kankakee) and go shopping by myself, is when I discovered Mrs. Fields cookies.

Believe it or not, up until this point my world was mainly made up of crispy cookies, but after one bite of the original Mrs. Fields chocolate chip cookie recipe, I was sold on the soft, more chewy variety.

Though I swore I’d always try another of her delicious cookies like white chocolate macadamia, I’m pretty much a traditionalist when it comes to cookies.

Well, cookies and me made it through college, while I was learning to cook and keep the cookie jar filled.

Yes, the freshman 15 is real.

And then I found Mrs. Fields Favorite Cookie cookbook in 1988 and there was no going back from there.

I can not find this one on Amazon, but there is another listed.

This Blue ribbon chocolate chip cookies recipe is her famous cookie-as far as I know.

And I can’t call this a copycat recipe,, because I am giving it to you straight from Debbi Fields.

All I can tell you is that it’s been a long time since I made this great recipe and it is still one of the best chewy chocolate chip cookies I know of.

I served these while watching commercials at the Super Bowl and I can tell you that Mrs.Field’s cookies still win the crowds over.

Well, at least it did for all four of us!

This recipe makes a ton of cookies, a dozen of which I shared with my neighbor who kept my driveway shoveled, while Manservant was busy in Texas helping his father.

I must say that’s a good thing because there was a lot more chocolate chip cookie dough to go around.

The Origin of Mrs. Fields Cookies:

Mrs. Fields, founded by the visionary Debbie Fields, gained fame for its delectable chocolate chip cookies.

The story began with her first store opening in Palo Alto, California, in 1977.

The irresistible aroma of freshly baked cookies lured customers in, sparking a cookie revolution.

I guess you could say I was an early investor-don’t I wish?

However you could say that I possiby helped her to get where she is now. LOL!

Anyway if you are ever lost in a mall, just follow the scent of the cookie trail and you will find your way out.

The same goes for Cinnabons!

No need to chill the cookie dough; Mrs. Fields cookie recipe is as easy as it gets.

  • Use a large cookie scoop to create golf ball size cookie dough balls, about 1 heaping tablespoon total in size.

Why Mrs. Fields Chocolate Chip Cookies Stand Out:

  • Mrs. Fields chocolate chip cookies are not just a cookie; they are a cultural phenomenon, recognized and loved globally. Though I don’t think they are the prettiest cookie in the world, they certainly win in the taste category.
  • Use quality ingredients. Real butter. Real chocolate chips. Real vanilla extract. All contribute to tasty cookies.
  • The original recipe provides a perfect base, while optional add-ins allow for customization based on personal preferences. Think M and M’s or even a scoop of ground oats.
  • Mrs. Fields found the perfect balance of simplicity and indulgence, creating a cookie that is both easy to make and extraordinarily delicious.

Mrs. Fields Chocolate Chip Cookie Secrets For Best Results:

  • Warm/Room Temperature Salted Butter:
    • Butter that is room temperature is incorporated easily into the sugars. If you use unsalted butter, increase the salt in the recipe to 1/2 to 3/4 t of salt. I like salt in cookies but you may not want as much as me.
  • Do Not Over Mix:
    • Mix different types of chocolate chips for a diverse and rich flavor profile. Experiment with milk, dark, and white chocolate.
    • Over mixing adds more air to the dough which may make the cookies fall. It also can make the cookies dense.
  • Baking Cookies at a Low Temperature results in a chewy cookie with a soft exterior.

If you love homemade cookies as much as I do, I hope you enjoy this “secret recipe”.

They may not be the real thing, direct from the mall, but they are like WAY better than the grocery stores selections.

Chocolate chip cookies are one of my favorite things and this original Mrs. Fields chocolate chip cookie recipe is a treasured recipe of mine.

It’s a good, good cookie and Manservant says that each time he takes one out of the bag.

So want to know the way to win someone over?

Clearly, this Mrs. Fields cookie recipe ought to do it!
