Who doesn’t love a chocolate pie? Well, I don’t know anyone.

I also love this Nestle’s chocolate chip cookie pie that I added some Fall flavors too.

This old-fashioned fudge pie recipe is one Manservant always requests and since it comes together so fast I’m always happy to oblige.

With or without a homemade crust, this easy dessert is a decadent dessert made for chocolate lovers.

Made with unsweetened cocoa powder, instead of  melted semi-sweet chocolate, this family recipe hardly requires much time to make.

Which means this old fashioned fudge pie is great for a special occasion or just for dessert tonight.

Why I Love this Fudge Pie Recipe

Besides being a cherished recipe given to me by my mother-in-law, this is an easy recipe to make.

I do prefer a crust but it doesn’t need to be a homemade pie crust.

I also love that I usually always have all of the ingredients on hand which means I can whip this up at the last minute.

And did I mention how fudgy this decadent chocolate fudge pie is?

Yeah, I thought so but some things are worth mentioning twice!

This fudge pie with pecans can be made with or without nuts, but I also added a layer of chocolate chips.

Because!

Like I mentioned, this simple recipe makes a decadent fudge pie.

Fudge Pie Recipe Ingredients

Melted Butter- Unsalted

Dark brown sugar- light brown sugar can also be used and you can even make this with all granulated sugar

Granulated sugar

Flour

Salt

Natural or Dutch processed cocoa- when there is no leavening either type of cocoa may be used. I generally use Hershey’s or Trader Joe’s which is not Dutch processed.

Vanilla or 1 T bourbon

Eggs at room temperature

Dark chocolate chips or chopped bittersweet chocolate (milk chocolate chips would make this extra sweet.)

Toasted pecans-toasting brings out the flavor of the nuts

Unbaked pie shell- Many love a graham cracker crust but I prefer a refrigerated pie crust as I think this is too hard to spread into a graham crust. You could also make your own crust, in which case I will give you extra bonus points!

How To Make This Easy Fudge Pie Recipe

Preheat oven.

In a large bowl mix melted butter, sugars, flour, salt, cocoa, vanilla or bourbon and eggs together. Whisk well.

In an unbaked pie shell, sprinkle chocolate chips and pecans over bottom of crust. Spread above filling on top.

Bake until center is just jiggly and the top of the pie is shiny.

Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, coffee ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.

I am fine just having a bite of this fudge pie with a cold glass of milk!

Fudge pie is easily stored for a few days at room temperature covered with aluminum foil.

My favorite pie plate is the one above by Emile Henri.

FAQ’s

What is the history of fudge pie?

There are lots of versions of fudge pie, but this one is said to have originated in the South in the early 1900’s.

What is fudge pie?

Fudge pie is basically a brownie made in a pie pan or tin. My mother-in-law often served it without a pie crust.

How do I substitute unsweetened chocolate for cocoa?

A 1 ounce piece of unsweetened chocolate is equivalent to 3 T of cocoa. You should also remove 1 T of butter per each ounce of chocolate.
