Description
Whether you have leftover matzo or Saltines, this is a fun snack recipe that keeps everyone satisfied.
Ingredients
3 sheets Matzo or 1 sleeve Saltines broken into 1" pieces
2.5 c mixed salted nuts
2 large egg whites
1/4 c plus 1 T brown sugar
1/4 c sugar
1 T soy sauce
1 T garam masala
1 T kosher salt
1 t fresh ground black pepper
1/2 t cayenne pepper
2 T melted butter
1/2 - 3/4 c of dried fruit such as raisins or slivered apricots (optional)
Instructions
Preheat oven to 325. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or a silpat pad.
In a large bowl combine matzo or Saltines and nuts.
In a medium sized bowl whisk egg whites until frothy. Stir in soy sauce, both sugars and seasonings.
Toss with nut mixture. Spread onto baking sheet and bake until golden and caramelized, about 35-45 minutes.
Remove from oven and toss with melted butter. Let cool and then enjoy!
Notes
Keeps well in a giant zip lock bag or in a sealed container for up to 1 month.
